Start the journey of managing your mineral rights and royalties.

Did you first find out that you inherited mineral rights or royalties from a phone call or a letter from a landman or mineral buyer? Do you want to have a better handle on what it is that you own so that you aren’t caught off guard next time?

If you’re like most people, you want to learn all you can about being a responsible and informed mineral owner. I’m going to help you cut through the confusion – to not only learn more about your existing mineral rights and royalties but to also equip you with the tools to find out if you might own other interests that you don’t currently know about.

In Mineral Management Basics, I’ll walk you step-by-step through the process of finding out exactly what you own and where it is located. With high-quality videos (that aren’t too long) and examples along the way, you’ll be able to locate your mineral and royalty interests on a map, perform your own title search, and identify nearby oil and gas activity.

Your interests are depending on you to find them.

Meet your course instructor

Hello, My name is Matt Sands. I've worked in the oil & gas and Mineral Rights industry for over 24 years. Here's how I can help you.

I am the owner of Silverheels Investments LLC, a mineral rights and royalty interest consulting and investment company. I am the current President of the National Association of Royalty Owners and I am a Certified Mineral Manager (CMM).

I've applied what I've learned in the business to helping my consulting clients in all areas In of managing, buying, selling, and understanding the value of their mineral rights and royalties.

I've also been sharing tips about Mineral Rights and Royalties on my Podcast since 2017. I consistently hear from my listeners that they would like to have a better understanding of what they own and how to properly manage their mineral interests. They need someone who's been there and done it to help guide them through the whole process.

That's why I created Mineral Management Basics, to help mineral and royalty owners learn from my successes and failures in managing my own properties.

What you'll learn in Mineral Management Basics

Across seven separate course modules, you'll learn everything you need to know about the basics of mineral management:

Introduction to Oil and Gas Interests

I'll teach you about the different types of land ownership rights and the differences between the types of interests that make up the mineral and leasehold estates.

Important Documents for Mineral and Royalty Owners

There are several types of legal instruments that are relevant for mineral and royalty owners. You'll find out what to look for when searching for your records.

How to Perform a Title Search

Learn where to go and the questions to ask when searching country records. You'll get the know how to find the relevant information about your property based on property location or using a grantor/grantee index.

How to Locate Your Property

You will learn how to read a legal description and the different ways property is described in the US. I'll then walk through how to find your mineral interests on a map.

Discover the Oil and Gas Potential of your Property

Learn how to search for oil and gas activity near your mineral interests. You'll also find out how to search for pooling and spacing orders and how all of this can be used to determine the relative value of your property.

How this course sets you up for success

MANAGING YOUR MINERAL RIGHTS CAN BE HARD WORK, BUT YOU'RE NOT ALONE

I understand how intimidating it can be to properly manage your mineral rights and royalties if you are new to the game. Even though I had over 16 years experience in the oil and gas industry, when I started managing mineral rights and royalties in 2015, I had a lot to learn too.

I was worried that I was doing it wrong and leaving precious money on the table.

I don't want you to feel that way, I want you to be excited that you're going to be managing your mineral interests on your own!

A bit part of feeling excited, rather than scared, is knowing you have a place to go when you have questions or need a little encouragement. Mineral Management Basics has built-in ways for you to get help, whether you are having a hard time finding what you need with your title search or in interpreting things that you find on the oil and gas commission website.

That's why I've setup two ways for you to get support:

Email support with Matt Sands

Sometimes you just need to ask the teacher a question. That's why you'll get exclusive email access to me that is only available to course students.

Access to the private MRP Academy community

Course students can leave a private question or comment within each lesson to ask for help or to share your successes. This is a place where you can ask questions when you're stuck and share ideas to get honest feedback from other mineral owners like you.

Don't take my word for it

Real Mineral Management Basics students share their experiences with the course and how it has benefitted their lives.

These are real students, just like you. They knew they needed to change the way they managed their minerals. Mineral Management Basics gave them the power to proactively manage their minerals and royalties. Let it help you, too.

"A few years ago, I began educating myself about our family’s O&G after my dad passed away.

I wasn’t quite sure what, why or where we owned these interests. My “pain” was not knowing what I didn’t know, simply the uncertainty if I was making the right decisions for our family.

After taking the course, I have a much better confidence in what I know and its thoroughness in order to deal with others with our family’s O&G interests.

I would definitely recommend this course, especially for someone taking their first steps into their family’s O&G interests. Much of this stuff is not intuitive and has its own lingo. If you’re interested in understanding what you and your family own, this is definitely the place to start."

"I feel like this course has given me a structure to take what I have and going forward I can add on to this into the future.

The homework assignments have been very helpful to me in sorting out what checklists to create to help me confirm that I have the necessary documents. And I now have a way to dig in and organize my documents by category so I can always find them when I need to. Thanks for getting me on the right path!

"As a geologist, this course has provided an awareness on mineral & royalty management.

I see an opportunity for professional work (or way out from the standard Oil & Gas environment which I have represented for the last 15 years). This course translates into the training vast knowledge along with the meticulous forensic work that Matt has performed for his interests and others. The detailed training material and support allow the student to reach the extent of their potential.
